Tax System

The tax system is unnecessarily complex and confusing. Simplifying the tax code would save millions of dollars annually. I believe marginal rates will have to be adjusted, in light of the present economic situation. If we are to balance the budget and reduce the deficit, in order to continue the present day services, tax rates will likely have to increase, and a review of all operations will be necessary to reduce cost. While a flat tax sounds appealing, I am not sure it is plausible. I would like the opportunity to study that issue further. I would hope that tax system changes generate more revenue only to the level necessary for the government to function properly, to balance the budget and reduce the deficit. I believe the federal government’s role should be as unobtrusive on the states and the people as reasonable.
